How to make a proper golf stance
Why is it important to have proper stance while playing golf? This helps you have the perfect swing when you use your golf club or driver. It provides the body with good structure so you do not hurt yourself while following through on your swing. Your stance is what gives your swing more power and control to help you strike the ball in the direction you want it to go. There are a few things to consider that can help you improve your stance overtime such as the following tips:
- Understand proper form with your golf stance. Your feet may flare a little with your driver and your shoulders help guide your stance. Meaning, your stance should be slightly wider than the width of your shoulders. With shorter irons your stance may not be as wide. Remember your stance is what gives you good balance as you stand behind the ball with your iron.
- Practice being consistent with your stance. If you do not have consistency you may not be able to hit or swing accurately each time you hit the ball. Your feet should be firmly place in the ground throughout your swing motion.
- Your hips, shoulders, hands, and arms are the only body parts that should move. Pay attention to how your body moves as you swing. These elements will help you understand how your body maintains control, resistance, and balance through your swing to help you create the power you need behind it.
Your toes should point outward with your feet flared slightly. Doing so will allow your hips to move freely without injury or muscle strain.
- When you bend do so at the waist and not at your back. Doing so properly helps hands, shoulders, and your back create a straight line. You want these parts of the body to be aligned each time you swing to help you achieve good swing control and power. This also helps hips and shoulders rotate together evenly.
- Find practice drills that will help you practice your stance. For instance, your knees can be locked while standing straight with your bottom slightly sticking out. This will help you learn to bend your body correctly.
- Knees can be slightly bent when you have a solid base from your waist. Think about the position of an athletic stance. Proper bending at the waist may help reduce or prevent back pain. This allows your back to have reduced amount of pressure.
