Five Hints That Will Help You Improve the Coordination of Your Swing
It is one thing to get the mechanics of your swing in place, but it is something else altogether to actually bring those pieces together into one coordinated motion. Having a coordinated swing means that all of the pieces are working in the right sequence and working together to lead up to a successful impact position. Many amateur golfers struggle with the coordination of their swing, and therefore have trouble achieving a consistent ball flight shot after shot. The five tips below can help you to pull together your swing coordination and find better results than ever before.
- Keep it simple. The more moving parts you have in your swing, the harder it will be to bring them together and get everything coordinated. Try to take out any extra movements in your swing that aren’t necessary, and you will find that the process of making solid contact suddenly becomes easier to complete.
- Focus on rhythm. Coordination is not so much about the technical part of the game, but rather than consistent rhythm that you are able to bring to the swing. Having a good tempo will help every part of your game, from your full swing all the way down to your short game. When you are practicing, focus more on your tempo than your technique and it will get easier to coordinate everything that is happening during the swing.
- Start out balanced. Balance is a key part of swing coordination, so make sure you are in a good balanced position before your swing starts and you will have a much better chance of remaining balanced throughout the swing. Get your weight evenly distributed between your feet, and take an athletic stance that engages your lower body right from the start.
- Shorten your backswing. If you are struggling to feel coordinated during your downswing, try taking a slightly shorter backswing to pull everything together. It might only require a minor shortening of your swing to make you feel far more connected and improve the quality of your ball striking.
- Start with the legs. Good golf swings are driven by the lower body, and that should be the case with yours as well.
